5 Things You Need to do to Make Money From Anywhere as a Writer

As someone who has always had an entrepreneur spirit, I am will no doubt always encourage people to learn how to make income on their terms. Especially writers. You see, books have a soft spot in my heart, and for the longest time I had this voice in my head telling me, “You are a writer.” Then, when I started this little blog in my own corner of the internet I had a lightbulb go off… “I’m a writer!” So if you have had that voice in your head telling you you are a writer, here are 8 ideas for how you can get started writing from home (or anywhere in the world).

Just start writing

If you aren’t a very seasoned writer yet, or if you don’t have a big body of work, a good idea would be to start getting some work out there. You could very easily start this by creating your own blog, and could very well start making money with it too! Join my email training to learn how to make your first $1,000 blogging.

You could start writing in private, but getting work out there for potential employers to see is definitely going to be a way more beneficial thing for you to do.

Plus, if you did start up a blog, you can begin including things like affiliate links so that you could start getting paid a little cash right now while you wait for your writing career to take off.

Know your niche

There are a wide variety of ways that you can make money as writer:

  • Writing books
  • eBooks
  • Ghostwriting
  • Copywriting
  • Blogging
  • Freelance

These are just a few right off the top of my head. If you are hoping to get into any of these particular areas of writing, it’s important that you research what is required for each type of writing.

However, if you are just getting started writing, there are several things you can do start being seen as more professional, grow your body of work, and even start making money right now without getting hired by anyone!

Check your grammar

One thing that I am terrible with is grammar. I mean, I’m a pretty good speller, I’m decent with grammar, but I’m also a fast typer which usually means I make a lot of writing mistakes that my mom likes to tell me about after my blog posts are finished and published.

One of the most helpful tools has been installing Grammarly on my computer. You can start by downloading the free version, but if you are planning on being seen as a more professional writer, I would definitely opt for the subscription plan!

How Grammarly works

You can download Grammarly for your particular internet bowers (I have it on Chrome and Safari) and as I type, Grammarly will notify me about spelling errors minor punctuation mistakes, and more!

Check out this sample below.

Ever wondered what it takes to make money from home (or anywhere) as a writer? Here are 8 tips to getting started making money ASAP!

As you can see in the screenshot above, Grammarly notified me about my error on the word “spelling,” (I actually didn’t even try to misspell punctuation) and it also let me know that I needed a comma.

After Grammarly highlights these things, all I have to do is go back and click on the correction that is necessary. Download the free version of Grammarly here!

Offer to guest post

Another great way to build your body of work (and get more credibility) would be to start applying for guest posting. What you could do is find another blogger in your similar niche/interest, track down their email (it should be on their contact page) and email them with a guest post pitch.

As someone who has received many, many guest post applications, please, for the love of gouda let me give you some advice:

  • Know something about their blog – the more specific the better. Nothing makes me close an email quicker than an obvious copy and pasted email.
  • Give them 3-5 blog post topics (relevant to their site) to choose from. I don’t like people asking me to come up with ideas for them.
  • Know their guidelines. Review any posted guidelines that you can find before requesting your post idea.

Getting guest posts on different sites can help grow your website or blog and helps broaden your experience if you are reaching out to potential clients or jobs.

Ever wondered what it takes to make money from home (or anywhere) as a writer? Here are 8 tips to getting started making money ASAP!

Start getting paid right away

Yes, you want to build a successful writing career, but you also want to start making money right away, right? I totally get it, that’s why I created a quick list of some easy to start ways to make money with your writing right now

Start a blog

As I mentioned before, starting my blog allowed our family so much freedom and allowed me to continue to get all of my writing out of my system while making passive income month after month.

In fact, having a blog has allowed me to branch out and start making money in different ways because even when I take a break from the blog, I continue to make money from the previous posts I’ve already written.

If you are looking for a way to make income, a blog won’t be the fastest, but it’s actually pretty simple if you just learn the rules of how to make it successful. You can take my FREE How to Make You First $1,000 Blogging training to help you get started.

Teach writing

If you already have a lot of knowledge around writing you could turn your knowledge into a profitable online course! This would be a great way to teach others what you know and encourage them to chase their writing dreams.

Even if you are just an excellent proofreader, typer or storyteller, consider looking into selling an online course while you grow your writing business.

My two favorite platforms for creating online training and courses are:

Sell novellas on Amazon

Apparently, there is a whole business booming right now in the Amazon world — people who are writing mini eBook and novellas and sharing them to Amazon!

In fact, this could very easily turn into a full time income if you choose your genre wisely! So, if you are definitely a storytelling writer, this is for sure an avenue to look into!

Create an eBook

If you have any sort of an online audience right now (blog, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok) you could start creating and selling eBooks to your audience.

This is something that can be done as easily as putting a PDF together in Google Docs and uploading to a website or selling platform!

Get going!

My biggest piece of advice to you is to just get going right now! So often we just sit around dreaming about the life we want and never actually get around to living it! That, my friend is a waste of your time and talents and I won’t stand for it.
