Starting a blog can be one of the best things you ever do (and one of the scariest.) Charting into unknown territory is terrifying, to say the least. Learning how to start a blog can feel overwhelming. Like you’ll never get it all figured out. Trust me, I’ve been there. My best advice to you is to just take it a step at a time. The first step is just getting yourself all set up! I started my blog with BlueHost over 2 years ago and I haven’t looked back! At the time I was looking for a high-quality hosting site that was also affordable (because…#budgetlife.) So if you are just starting out and you’re wanting to keep start up costs low, but don’t want to skimp on quality, BlueHost is definitely the place to start!
Get Started Now!
Head on over to Blue Host to start getting your site all set up. Don’t worry, the first step is pretty self-explanatory. Just click, “Get Started Now” and then you…get started now!
Pick your plan
Once you’ve clicked “Get Started,” you will be brought to a screen that lays out all of your different plan options.
While all of BlueHost’s plans are going to give you quality hosting, my top recommendation is their Choice Plus plan. While the Basic plan is the most affordable, you are more limited when it comes to performance.
However, I totally get what it’s like jumping into something new and not being totally sure of how it is going to pan out. If you are hoping to save some money on your startup costs, the Basic plan is the place to start. Plus, you can always upgrade later!
Choose your name!
One of the most exciting things about starting your own blog is choosing a name. Maybe the whole time you’ve been wondering how to start a blog just because you have such an awesome name! If so, feel free to type it in and see if it’s available.
Then again, maybe you’re not so sure, it’s ok, BlueHost now gives you the option to hold off on choosing a domain name right away! They’re just nice like that.
Customize your package
After entering your basic information, you can tweak and customize your BlueHost hosting package. The bigger of a commitment you make to your blog, the lower your cost per month will be. However, as I said, I get that sometimes it’s just not affordable.
Personally, I started with a one-year commitment, but if you’re able to do longer, I highly recommend it, simply because it is the more affordable option in the long run.
My top recommended extra to add with your plan would be Site Backup Pro. Just imagine putting in months and months of hard work on your blog only to lose it all!
I’m definitely the kind of person that only needs one second to make big giant mistakes. Cover your bases, cover your work and opt for backup!
