How to Get Cash with Decluttr

I can’t even tell you how many times I have downsized and decluttered and left money on the table. Often times I am in such a rush to clean house that I have quickly discarded or donated items instead of getting cash for them. All the previous times I had attempted to sell online, I found myself gravely disappointed. If I wasn’t being bombarded with questions, I was getting talked down in price. On top of all that, trying to meet up with people in order to exchange items became too stressful that I gave up all together. Now I know how to clean house and get cash for electronics, DVDs, games, books, Legos and more.

Start to declutter

Decluttering can be a crazy overwhelming process, especially if you have a lot to get through! If you are feeling totally perplexed and don’t even know how to begin, I have a few tips to get you started. First of all, when you get started decluttering, the first thing you should do is create 4 piles; keep, discard, donate and sell. This is something you can do in a day or over the course of a week. It all depends on how much decluttering you have to do. Personally, I tend to go into crazy lady mode and just start chucking items into boxes without a second thought.

When it comes to my selling box, I’ve been putting a lot more items in it these days. Like I said, it used to be a quick trip to Goodwill and I was done. Now, I know I can get rid of items just as quickly and easily while making some extra cash with Decluttr. Getting a pile together for selling with Decluttr will make downsizing much easier and will help keep everything organized. Decluttr takes a wide variety of tech and electronics as well as books and even Legos. There are certain items that are not accepted by Decluttr and for those you can try other online thrift stores like

What is Decluttr

Decluttr is an online thrift store where you can shop or sell your stuff. When it comes to selling your items, you can head to their website, type in the name of your item or enter it’s barcode. If an items does not have a barcode, unfortunately, it’s not something you can sell through Decluttr. They have made selling with them even easier by creating an app that allows you to scan barcodes rather than entering them manually. To download the app, just head to their site and click “Get our FREE app” from the menu.

Once you have entered or scanned your barcodes, you will get the exact price they are willing to pay you for your item(s). This will be your  guaranteed price if all your items pass the quality inspection! No haggling, no trickery; just plain and simple. Once your items pass through quality inspection, payment will be issued the next business day. With UPS shipping and inspection this process is usually between 10-12 business days! You also have the option to choose between a check, direct deposit through PayPal, or a direct account deposit.

Send in quality materials.

When entering your tech or cell phone information, Decluttr will ask what type of condition your item is in. Be sure to be absolutely honest when it comes to this question. If your items are not in the condition you originally state then you stand the chance of not getting them back and not getting paid. That’s why it is crucial to not only make sure that you’ve taken the best care of your item but that you are honest if you haven’t.

Unmarked DVDs and CDs

Because Decluttr will only resell top quality items, they also want top quality DVDs, CDs and games. This means no no major damage done to the disks and no scratches or markings on the covers. All disks will only be accepted with covers.

Unlock your phone

When typing in the information for your phone, you will be prompted to answer the type of carrier you have. Decluttr does accept phones that are not unlocked, but you will get significantly more if you take the time to have them unlocked. This is a usually a simple process that can be done through your phone carrier. It’s worth the extra step if you wind up getting paid more in the long run.

No lost or stolen phone

This one should go without saying, but Decluttr will not be accepting stolen materials. All devices are run through CheckMED which provides a clear device history to ensure that each item accepted has not been previously lost or stolen.

How to get paid

In order to ensure you get paid, you must have a minimum of $5 worth of materials to sell. Once you ship your items to Decluttr with free insured shipping through UPS, you can expect them to receive your package between 7 and 10 business days. As soon as your package arrives it will be inspected and after all your items are accepted, you will be issued payment the following business day. Payment can take longer depending on the type of method you have chosen.

Final thoughts

Personally, I am crazy excited that selling used items is getting this much quicker and easier. Clearing all the clutter from your house right away and still getting paid is what I call a win/win. Sure, if you went to a local consignment shop you stand to get paid on the spot but often times you won’t make as much. Besides, the idea of delayed gratification is gaining huge momentum these days. Why not take a few weeks to daydream and make a plan for where you will be spending your extra cash? If you have quality, well maintained items, you literally have nothing to lose by selling with Decluttr.

This is a great idea. Nothing like getting cash for things that you don’t use anyway!
