Get Cash with Decluttr when You KonMari DVDs, Games and Books
The KonMari Method is sweeping the nation once again after Marie Kondo’s Netflix special started airing. Now everyone is more determined than ever to live with less, declutter and organize their homes. One of the major problems with this is that a lot of people are quick to either toss the items that no longer “spark joy” or they shove them in a garbage bag and drop them by their local Goodwill. Taking the time and patience to make any money for their discarded items is a rare occasion. Â I totally get this because when I start decluttering, I just want everything gone ASAP. BUT, did you know there is a way to KonMari DVDs, games and books immediately and still get paid for them? It’s just as easy as dropping off a donation, except this time you get a little extra change in your pocket. Â

Decluttering KonMari style
The KonMari method has 5 main categories to organize by. Those categories are:
- Clothing
- Books
- Papers
- Komono (miscellaneous items)
- Mementos (special items)
When it comes to making a little extra cash with category #1, clothing, I highly recommend checking out Swap.com. It is a great site to buy and sell gently used clothing in a super easy way.
However, people often work so long on their clothing that by the other steps fall by the wayside. So let’s talk about that 2nd category for a second. Now, when Marie Kondo says books I can only imagine she would be happy to include things like CDs, DVDs, and games. They all kind of fit in that same category of entertainment and relatively the same size.
How to KonMari DVDs, games and booksÂ
Just like the rest of the KonMari method, decluttering DVDs, games, and books ultimately comes down to what sparks joy and what doesn’t.
To figure out which item sparks joy, I would recommend starting with your absolute favorite of each. Your favorite DVD, favorite game and favorite book.
Of course, keep each group separate. Hold your favorite book. Notice how your body reacts when you hold it and then work your way through the rest of your books to see if any of them spark that same kind of joy. If not, put them in the Decluttr pile.Â
Go through and do this for the other items and then log on to Decluttr to see how much money you could make for all of those items that no longer spark joy.

How to get the most for your stuff
Send in quality materials.
When entering your tech or cell phone information, Decluttr will ask what type of condition your item is in. Be sure to be absolutely honest when it comes to this question.
If your items are not in the condition you originally stated then you stand the chance of not getting them back and not getting paid.
That’s why it is crucial to not only make sure that you’ve taken the best care of your item but that you are honest if you haven’t.
Unmarked DVDs and CDs
Because Decluttr will only resell top quality items, they only want top quality DVDs, CDs, and games.
This means no major damage done to the disks and no scratches or markings on the covers. All disks will only be accepted with covers.
Unlock your phone
When typing in the information for your phone, you will be prompted to answer the type of carrier you have. Decluttr does accept phones that are not unlocked. You will get significantly more if you take the time to have them unlocked.
Unlocking your phone is usually a simple process that can be done through your phone carrier. It’s worth the extra step if you wind up getting paid more in the long run.
No lost or stolen phones
This one should go without saying, but Decluttr will not be accepting stolen materials. All devices are run through CheckMED which provides a clear device history to ensure that each item accepted has not been previously lost or stolen.
How to get paidÂ
In order to ensure you get paid, you must have a minimum of $5 worth of materials to sell. Once you ship your items to Decluttr with free insured shipping through UPS, you can expect them to receive your package between 7 and 10 business days.
As soon as your package arrives it will be inspected and after all your items are accepted, you will be issued payment the following business day. Payment can take longer depending on the type of method you have chosen.
Final thoughts
If you know me, you know I am in full support of a decluttered house and a clutter-filled bank account! Hah! So if you find yourself prepping for some spring cleaning or itching to give the KonMari method a try, I strongly recommend taking a few extra moments to try and get some cash for those less joyful items that you decide to discard. Decluttr is just one way to do it!
