The Best Ways to Create Space in a Tiny Home
I don’t live in a tiny home, but it is definitely a dream of mine. Even though I’m not officially “living tiny,” we did downsize our house and lose 2,000 square feet of finished living space. Although we don’t have a crazy tiny house, I did look around the other day and realize how creative I have been in finding and creating storage in the space we do have. I know some people have gotten even more creative than me and that’s why I wanted to share some genius ideas with you. Here are some of the best ways to create space in a tiny home so you can stay small and organized at the same time.

On the side of the fridge
Look at this absolutely genius idea for small space storage. I mean who would think to make sure that tiny little crack between the fridge and the wall doesn’t go to waste?
Just imagine how much cupboard space you’ll save by stashing all these spices and sauces in a hidden cranny.
While this is a pretty easy thing to construct, (the site Instructables has laid out exactly what you need,) you can also buy storage like this on Amazon!
By far one of the best ways to create space in a tiny home is by taking full advantage of the space that you already have.

Use up corner space
Another great small space storage solution is to take full advantage of those corners!
Think about it, how often do the corners of your house serve a purpose? Probably not often. I have a guitar propped up in one and a pile of Goodwill donations stacked in another.
Helena at Craft and Creativity has a ton of great corner storage ideas for beautiful bookshelves. This one is my personal favorite because I know how much space and clutter kid’s books can take up. Click here to get bookshelves like the ones in the photo.
On top of that, you can tell from this photo that this corner likely wouldn’t have been used for anything since it is between a window and a door. Now it serves a perfect small space storage solution.

Under the bed
Sure, we shove unsightly objects under the bed hoping no one will ever know just how unorganized we are.
If you are living in a small space, why not take full advantage and create space in a tiny home by turning under your bed into a full-blown closet space?
I have seen this type of design in many tiny home documentaries and it’s just so smart. Personally, I love the sleek, stylish design of this one from the Contemporist.
It’s even roomy enough for a full-grown woman to stand up underneath! This under-bed storage is definitely unique and you can find something similar on Amazon!

Above the fridge
Yes, I stash things on top of my fridge. We also have a cabinet up there to hide things in.
Again, it seems someone else has figured out how to take full advantage of all the space and make it look beautiful and organized. I saw this example on The Kitchnn and just fell in love.
The design gives so much storage space solutions and still keeps everything super organized.
If you live in a small space, you definitely have to get creative with as many small space storage solutions as you can find. That’s for sure.
While it’s important to find storage, I also think keeping a fresh, clean, organized feel is important as well and this design nailed it.

Inside the cupboards
Again, waste not, want not. I loved this bathroom cupboard door organization from the Family Handyman.
Not only do cords make everything crazy messy and super frustrating, but this solution also frees up a little extra space for towels and toiletries.
There is also a quick tutorial to follow so you can re-create this small space storage in your own home using PVC pipe.
This idea gets extra bonus points for helping to create space in a tiny home because whatever cupboard space you have is precious. Why not use every single inch?

Hideaway table/desk
Look at this genius tiny house storage idea! This has to help free-up some serious space!
The site Ideipentrucassa has a whole bunch of awesome storage hacks and creative furniture ideas, but this one was my favorite. Not only do you have a day to day storage, but a table and/or a desk!
I can see this being a perfect fit to create space in a tiny house because you can literally hide away the kitchen table! Here is one similar that you can actually mount on the wall!

Under the stair storage
Under the stairs is a genius way to create extra storage. I used to spend hours under my friend’s basement steps because she had an entire Barbie dreamland hidden away down there! It was amazing.
This photo was found on the website Curbed and is an actual tiny house storage solution!
We are finishing our basement (knock on wood) in the next few years and were planning on using under our steps for storage.
When I stop to think about it, things will inevitably pile up under there and be really tough to get at. It almost never works as smoothly as people imagine. So why not make the organization easier by creating functional shelving? This space is all around beautiful and the shelves only add to it.
I also love the potential closet space and under-stair storage. There are just so many ways you can take full advantage of this space.

Under the cabinets
This house featured on Tiny House Talk is all around funky and stylish but they have also gotten really clever with their small space storage.
One space that I really loved that they took advantage of was under the kitchen cabinets. Of course!
I may just spend the rest of my day looking for wasted space in my house because apparently, there’s a ton of it.
Why waste a perfectly good-sized drawer with those flat, skinny little objects that don’t really require that much space? Instead, you can just put them right where they belong…in the tiny cracks that nobody even thinks about!

Storage versus organizing
There is such a big difference between organizing versus minimalist small space storage. These examples take full advantage of their space in order to create a more organized home.
Organization often looks like added bins, boxes, and shelving. I don’t know about you, but I’m not really about “more” which is why I love how perfectly all of these storage solutions have thought long and hard about “less.” Less mess, less stress..just, less.
Do you have some awesome storage solutions? Mine really pale in comparison to these ones so I would love to hear from you if you have conquered some small space storage solutions!
Don’t forget to PIN this!

I like the idea of using shelves for the corner spaces. I looks like I read your article just in time. Just this week I was planning on making more room in my son’s room. I was going to get him a loft bed so I could put some storage and a desk under it. Unfortunately, I forgot about the ceiling fan in his room and had to go with a shorter loft bed. It helps with some storage. I had to get a roll out desk for the bed since he couldn’t sit under it.
We had a loft bed in our son’s room too and it’s a good thing because now he and my daughter are sharing!! Definitely helped create space when we had to combine them!
The loft above the stairs is beautiful, but my kids would KILL themselves at this point. I really like the under the bed thing…love all these tips!
I know I thought that one was really neat as well, but they are all pretty great!
