I am a firm believer that you can do whatever you want in life. It just may take some hard work and determination. No wait, it definitely will take these two things! Whether you are wanting to be a stay at home parent or just avoid the morning commute, there are a ton of ways you can start making money from home right now. As a decade long stay at home mom I have found many side jobs and work from home opportunities to help pull in some extra cash. Now I am making over $2,000 per month working from home in my spare time and I’m doing something I absolutely love. On top of that, I set my own hours, have the freedom to travel and don’t even have to work some days! To learn how I’m doing it and how you can too keep reading on.*This post contains affiliate links. Although I may make a commission, all recommendations are my own.
When I made the choice to stay home with my kids I quickly realized that I needed to more than just be a mom. I worked part time jobs outside the home, did direct sales for a while and started my own photography business. Because of all of these things, I quickly learned that I do really well working for myself. I thrive at it.
After we downsized our house, I lost my photography studio and decided to start homeschooling. I wasn’t sure what the next step was for me. Thankfully, I was able to take on a 2 day a week part time job that fit my husband’s work schedule. I was still able to homeschool and was making an extra $500 or so per month. While this wasn’t a ton of money, it was something and I was able to get out of the house.
When that job no longer worked with our schedule, I needed to find something else. Something that was flexible, allowed me to be home, set my own hours and still brought in a significant amount of money.
I started a blog.
When I first made the decision to start blogging, I knew that I would need to take it seriously in order to eventually make money from it. That meant I needed to invest in it. So how much does it cost to start? You can check out my totally free lecture on how much money you need to start a blog. (Hint: it’s not a lot!)
It’s crazy now looking back to think of how I literally created a job out of thin air. Everything I need is on a laptop. I have brought my work to Idaho, Texas, Michigan and even the gym. When I say I can work from anywhere, I mean it!
Everyone asks me how I make money blogging. There are 4 main ways that you can make money from a blog.
I believe so much in making money with a blog, that I created an affordable course that teaches you exactly what to do with your blog, how to make money and how to promote yourself for free! Get 5 lessons totally free!
I originally started my blog using Google AdSense. The one major mistake I made was not switching ad companies sooner. After reaching 25,000 page views per month, bloggers qualify for Mediavine advertising.
Mediavine pays more than Google AdSense and they do all of the ad work for you! On my best month I was making about $300 with the ads I had from Google AdSense. Now, with Mediavine that amount would be closer to $2,000!
Affiliate links are one of my favorite ways to make money with the blog. The reason they are my favorite is that I am a natural sharer. If there is some great, new awesome product or company that I love, I am going to talk about it. With affiliate links I can talk about it and make money.
My favorite affiliates:
These affiliates are my favorite because I have personally used them and I love them all. They come naturally for me to recommend and because I can be genuine in recommending them, I usually see commissions from them.
There are many different kinds of sponsored posts that you can do. Some companies will give you free product, some will pay you for your post and some will do both! To learn more about sponsored posts, I highly recommend taking the Pitch Perfect course that teaches you how to pitch to brands and make money!
Some of my sponsored posts:
Another great way to be more in control of how much money you make is by creating your own products to sell. These can be small, easy to afford products or big, high end courses! I have 2 digital products that I focus on and have earned over $1,000 from the cheapest one!
My digital products:
Because I homeschool my kids, I have had to create a more strict work schedule when it comes to the blog. This is a general idea of what my daily schedule looks like:
As you can see, I fit blogging in where I can and when I can. Running a blog means writing posts, answering emails, being active on social media and working on any side projects I have as well. When all is said and done, I usually spend around 5 – 6 hours blogging per day.
You get started blogging by just getting started. Chances are you will not have all of your questions answered right away so you may as well just take the leap and get started.
I strongly recommend taking advantage of my blogging course that teaches you exactly how I make over $2,000 per month working from home in my spare time.
The Fun Sized Blogging Basics teaches you how to promote yourself for free, how to get traffic, interact with your readers and of course, make money!
Each person will start making money at a different speed. I personally blogged for about 9 months before I saw any real profits. But as soon as I started figuring out what worked for me, my income shot up and has stayed pretty consistent. Check out my answer to the major question: “Do bloggers actually make money while they sleep?”
Because I am home all day, I also earn money through dog sitting with Rover! Just by letting some cute, snuggly pups hang out with us for a few days, I have been able to make between $200 and $500 extra each month! If you are just getting started with a blog, this can be an additional way to make some extra cash fast!
Not all bloggers make a huge income from their blog. However, I fully plan on sticking with blogging and plan to make a larger income with it every year. That’s exactly how to make this thing work. Stay consistent, keep at it. The more you allow yourself to grow, the more people you reach. The more people you reach, the more money you stand to make. Blogging can be a game changer when it comes to working from home. Trust me.
